Updates:

  • 8/2007 New Hoosier 23X9.5X15 R35A Slicks

  • New wheel spacers for handling adjustments (5mm in front)

  • More negative camber for Hoosiers

  • New  rear spoilers installed, removed front spoiler

  • Soften overall spring rates for slicker surfaces...more to come in off season

I like the way the car feels with the new rear spoiler on.  Not dramatic but subtle and helps with overall rear grip on the faster stuff. Will be resetting the camber and corner weighting before the next event due to needing a bit more negative camber with the new Hoosier slicks...quite a bit of rear tire rollover as well...think we were chasing lower tire pressures when we should have been going the other way.

Built a 5th gear lockout (5th and reverse) due to running into courses that are too fast for 2nd gear and needing to shift into third gear.  Shifting is difficult at best with this setup and after hitting the wrong gear too many times, decided to build a reverse and 5th gear lockout so I could shift into 3rd with "authority" and not worry about hitting 5th and fishing for 3rd with hitting 1st being a not too pleasant possibility.  So this is what I have for now.  Also built a plate replacement that will lockout 1st and 4th as well.  Only problem is you can't select first with it engaged so you flip it over on to the shift knob, then when it goes into 2nd, it drops down locking out 1st, 4th, 5th and reverse.  Then when coming in, you have to flip it back to the disengaged position while in 2nd in order to select first.  Might take some getting used to but if the 5th and reverse lockout doesn't work, then this is a possibility.

disengaged engaged

1st, 4th, 5th & reverse plate made but not installed.

If this doesn't work, I am considering a ring and pinion gear change for higher gearing probably to 4.44.  Rare but available ratio.  Alternatively and for next year, more rpm to take care of the issue...requires stiffer valve springs among other things.

BRAKES:
Also still need a front brake bias valve and/or smaller front brakes...will work on that project in due course anticipating putting on 1600 front brake rotors, hats and calipers.  Too much front brake even with the big rear brakes installed off the LS model.  Will also put on the standard rear brakes and install a bias valve in due course too.  Softer front springs for more compliance would help and is in the works for next season trading off anti-roll bar rate for softer springs...
